The Steel Bridges of Massachusetts

The Steel Bridges of Massachusetts

New England is a land drenched in history.  Cobblestone streets, costumed characters, and endless tours confirm this nearly fantastical theme from Boston to Bar Harbor.  However, most times it seems too distant to actually experience.  While you walk the same streets as Paul Revere, you can’t quite imagine him grabbing a pint at the Bell In Hand next to the sorority girl working on her third attempt at an acceptable selfie.  In some respects, it’s difficult to appreciate those historical subtleties when the current context is so contradicting.  At those times, you have to escape the city limits and find those monuments that still stand testament to a past life.  Things that are tangible, able to be experienced, almost precisely as they were before.  Some of my personal favorite artifacts for this purpose would have to be steel bridges.

Living Free in 603

The month of July is a beautiful thing not to be wasted.  Beyond sun and warm waters, there’s a fleeting island of opportunity that exists solely within the borders of 50 states.  Some call it Fourth of July; I prefer to think of it as Manifest Destiny.

Opening Day at Fenway Park Viewed Via Boston Pedicab

As we prepare for Opening Day at Fenway Park, while simultaneously being blanketed in snow, fond memories of its sun soaked 100th anniversary carry promise of summer’s approach.  Last year, I wanted to capture this anniversary and the activity it incited across the city.  After considering how to accomplish this, I landed on the team that is in the heart of the spectacle, the Boston Pedicab.  With the help of a close friend, we attached a GoPro to the handlebars of his pedicab.  Taking pictures every few seconds, we captured over 3,500 images of the day.

In the summer of 2010, The Ad Club was anticipating their 10th Anniversary of the Hatch Awards, the largest creative awards celebration in New England.  To promote the fall event and meet the renowned judges, we partnered with the SCVNGR team to create a trek leading to the “Meet the Judges” pre-event location.   I was charged with designing the locations, clues, and general operation of the trek.  Following these key guidelines, it was a huge success.

Boston & Nemo – PHOTOS

As you are well aware, it’s snowing sideways with only more on its way.  Plenty are adventuring outside in Allston to play in the snow, including some brave souls riding bikes.  A few vans are also breaking the driving van to try to offer cab rides to walkers.  Here are the photos my ventures produced:

Rebranding a 90 Year-old Organization

In the fall of 2011, the Back Bay Association was looking to transform its brand.  A dated website, fragmented communication channels, and the absence of an articulate value proposition was inhibiting the neighborhood association from conveying the benefit it offers the Back Bay.  I joined the BBA that October with the mission of rebranding this 90 year-old organization, and with the help of the first ever Intelligent.ly course with renowned brand artisan Mike Troiano, we nailed it. more →

DIY – Wine Crate Cabinets

City bathrooms are normally quite bare bones.  In the absence of adequate storage or accents, turning to a DIY alternative can offer a creative solution.  May I introduce the wine crate cabinet.

An American Tour – My Ride Across the Country

In the spring of 2011 I realized a dream that had evolved over five years, and rode my Harley Davidson Streetbob 12,000 miles across America.  I rode through thunderstorms, freezing temperatures, and slept many nights on my motorcycle.  It was the greatest experience of my life to date, and is captured in this publication.  While only a few stories from the road would fit in this account, I hope it shares with you some of the treasures this country holds.  Ride safe.

The Angel Oak in Charleston, SC

On John’s Island, just outside of Charleston, SC, there exists one of the oldest living things in the nation.  A sight that seems almost alien, The Angel Oak is a 1,500+ year old tree that sprawls across the sandy land.
